Ekadashi Shradh is performed for those deceased family members who died on Ekadashi Tithi of either Shukla Paksha or Krishna Paksha. It is also known as Gyaras Shradh among people.

According to scriptures, Muhurtas like Kutup, Rauhin etc. are considered auspicious for completing these Shradh. Rituals related to Shradhs should be completed by the end of the afternoon by offering Tarpan. During Pitru Paksha 2023, Ekadashi Shradh will be performed on October 9.

Fast for Indira Ekadashi is also observed on this day in Ashwin month.

  • Ekadashi date starts – October 09, 2023 at 12:36 pm
  • Ekadashi Tithi ends – October 10, 2023 at 03:08 PM
  • Kutup Muhurta – 11:46 AM to 12:32 PM, Duration – 00 hours 47 minutes
  • Rohin Muhurta – 12:32 PM to 01:19 PM, Duration – 00 hours 47 minutes
  • Afternoon Time – 01:19 PM to 03:39 PM, Duration – 02 hours 20 minutes

Can we buy something new during Pitru Paksha?

During Pitru Paksha, according to mythology it is believed that the souls of deceased ancestors keep wandering in the afterlife. Therefore, Pind Daan, Daan and Tarpan should be performed for the peace of his soul.

In addition to this, it is also believed that one should not buy new things during this period. It may have a negative impact on the family. Therefore, buying new things during Pitru Paksha is not considered auspicious.

Buying property, weddings, buying Gold or silver jewelery should not be done during Pitru Paksha. Apart from this, shopping for marriage or other joyous tasks are also not considered auspicious during this period.

The Pitru Paksha will conclude on October 14, 2023, which is known as Amavasya or Sarvapitru Moksha Amavasya.
