On the fourth day of the five-day Diwali celebration, Govardhan Puja is performed. On Pratipada Tithi, the first day of Shukla Paksha of the Kartik Maas, this event is observed. On this day, people create idols of Lord Shri Krishna and Govardhan Parvat in their homes. 

Following this, worship is dedicated to Govardhan Parvat and Lord Krishna, to whom Annakoot and Kadhi-rice are served as bhog. Diwali is observed on November 12 this year, yet there has been some misunderstanding about Govardhan Puja's timing. Date and auspicious time for Govardhan Puja

As per Hindu Panchang, the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik Maas will start at 02:56 pm on Monday, November 13 and will end the next day on Tuesday, November 14 at 02:36 pm. As per mythological scriptures, Udaya Tithi has been given special importance in Hindu religion. In such a situation, the festival of Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on November 14. 

According to Panchang, the auspicious Govardhan Puja Shubh Muhurat is between 06:43 am to 08:52 am on November 14. In such a situation, the puja time for Govardhan Puja will last for two hours and nine minutes. 

Method of Govardhan puja

  • On the day of Govardhan Puja, wake up early in the morning and take bath.
  • During the auspicious time, make the shape of Giriraj Govardhan mountain with cow dung and also make the shape of livestock i.e. cow, calf etc.
  • After this, worship with incense sticks etc.
  • Worship Lord Krishna after bathing him with milk.
  • After this, offer Annakoot as bhog.
