Ganesh Visarjan is among one of the most famous festival celebrated across the country. The 10-day festival marks the celebration of the birthday of Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The festival which is celebrated with great enthusiasm will conclude on Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of the festival, which will be celebrated on September 28, to say adieu to Lord Ganesha.

Ganesh Visarjan is the day when devotees immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha in the water. Devotees keep the idol of Lord Ganesha at home for 10 consecutive days and worship him with devotion and finally on the 11th day, they immerse that idol in the water.

Notably, Ganesh Visarjan is done on the Anant Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada month, according to Hindu Panchang.

Significance of Anant Chaturdashi on Ganesh Utsav

Anant Chaturdashi is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu also, devotees worship Lord Vishnu on this day and observe Purnima fast, as the very next day on Purnima, Pitra paksha begins.

On Anant Chaturdashi or the last day of Ganesh Utsav, devotees say goodbye to Lord Ganesha and he goes back to his home on this day. They also pray to Lord Ganesha, seek blessings and take a vow that he comes back again next year.

The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and people also invite their relatives and friends and perform puja at home along with them. Devotees takes Lord Ganesha idol for immersion to nearby water bodies with the sound of dhol and chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya Purva Varshi Lav karya”. Nowadays, devotees also welcome eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesh, so they can perform the immersion of the idol at home itself.
