Diwali, which is one of the most celebrated will be is on November 12. Worship of Lakshmi-Ganesh on the night of Diwali has great importance. It is believed that if you worship as per the rituals on the day of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi of wealth and Lord Ganesha, the giver of wisdom, will be pleased with you and shower their blessings. 

Performing puja at an auspicious time on Diwali brings happiness and prosperity in the house. During Diwali puja, it is important that all the puja materials are present. To avoid mistakes during Diwali puja, prepare the complete list of puja materials in advance.

Today we have brought for you a list of ingredients used during Lakshmi Puja on Diwali.

While performing Diwali puja, you should have a wooden post, a red cloth, a Lakshmi-Ganesh idol, kumkum, lump of turmeric, roli, betel nut, betel leaf, cloves, incense sticks, incense sticks, lamp, flame, matchstick, ghee, Ganga jal. There should be panchamrit, flowers, fruits, camphor, wheat, durva, sacred thread, kheel batashe, silver coins and kalava etc.

Shubh Muhurat for Diwali Puja

Performing Diwali puja in Shubh Muhurat has great significance. According to Hindu Panchang, following time is considered auspicious:

  • Lakshmi Puja Muhurat - 05:40 PM to 07:36 PM
  • Pradosh Kaal - 05:30 PM to 08:09 PM
  • Vrishabha Kaal - 05:40 PM to 07:36 PM
  • Amavasya Tithi Begins - 02:44 PM on Nov 12, 2023
  • Amavasya Tithi Ends - 02:56 PM on Nov 13, 2023

How to perform Puja

  • Though everyone has a different method of performing Diwali Puja as per their rituals. But here are some commons things that can be kept in mind.
  • After Diwali cleaning, clean every corner of the house and sprinkle Ganga water. Spread a red cotton cloth on a wooden plank and place a handful of grains in the middle.
  • Place the urn in the middle of the grain. Fill the Kalash with water and put a betel nut, a marigold flower, a coin and some grains of rice in it. Place 5 mango leaves in a circular shape on the Kalash.
  • Place the idol of Goddess Lakshmi in the middle of the Kalash and the idol of Lord Ganesha on the right side. Make a small mountain of rice grains in a small plate, make a lotus flower with turmeric, add some coins and place it in front of the idol.
  • Next, place your business accounts/books and other money/business related items in front of the idol. Now apply tilak to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and light the lamp.
  • Apply Tilak on the Kalash too
  • Now offer flowers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Do the puja by placing some flowers in your palm. Close your eyes and chant the Diwali puja mantra. Offer the flower kept in the palm to Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi. Offer turmeric, kumkum and rice to the idol.
  • Garland the Goddess and burn incense sticks. Offer coconut, betel nut and betel leaf to Goddess. Place some flowers and coins in front of the idol of the goddess. Light a lamp in a plate and perform the aarti of Goddess Lakshmi.
