Celestial events are always a treat for sky gazers and August is furnishing nothing less. With a series of astronomical delights already on our plate, there are numerous lined up that are surely going to give a punch to the ‘spacey’ marvels.

Perseids meteor show

If you love the nigh sky, you can not afford to miss the Perseids meteor show on August 12-13, 2023. The peak is expected to occur in the wee hours of 13th morning.

The Perseid meteor shower is usually one of the most active and brightest meteor showers of the year. In 2023 the peak nights are around the time of New Moon, which means more meteors will be visible against the dark sky. The meteor show occurs when a number of shooting stars flash across the sky.

Saturn at opposition

This will be one of the major astronomical events, Saturn will at the opposition on the night of August 27. In layman language, Saturn will be directly opposite the Sun in the sky. Or the earth will exactly line up with the Sun on the one side and Saturn on other.

Close approach of the Moon & Saturn

Closing out on the number of series this month, the Moon and the Saturn will again appear to be close in the sky. At their closest, the two will appear 2°16′ apart in the constellation Aquarius. Moon will be nearly full on the night of August 30, so it will be easily visible to the observe if you pull out your binoculars or telescope.
