Pradosh Vrat is observed on both the Trayodashi days of the lunar month, one of which falls during Shukla Paksha and the other during Krishna Paksha. According to mythology, Pradosh Vrat is observed when Trayodashi Tithi.

Significance of Pradosh Vrat

It is believed that devotee gets the blessings of Lord Shiva if he/she worship during that particular period. Pradosh Kaal starts at sunset. The best time to perform all the rituals of the Vrat is Pradosh Kaal.

Mythologically, when the Pradosh falls on Wednesday, it is known as Budh Pradosh.

What to eat during Budh Pradosh Vrat?

According to the scriptures, eating green moong during Budh Pradosh is considered good for the devotee, because green moong is of earth element and keeps the Mandagni calm. One should avoid eating red chillis, grains, rice and plain salt during Pradosh Vrat. However, you can also do a complete fasting or fruit diet.

Types of Pradosh Vrat

As per Hindu Panchang, two Pradosh Vrat falls in the month. Like Monday’s Pradosh, Tuesday’s Pradosh and other days’ Pradosh, all have different importance and benefits.

However, Pradosh falling on Wednesday is also called Soumyavara Pradosh, which is kept to gain education and gaining knowledge. Besides, it also fulfills the wishes one makes.

The next Pradosh Vrat will be observed on Thursday, October 26, 2023, which is known as Guru Shukla Pradosh Vrat.
