Bhadrapada Purnima, which marks the end of Bhadra month and the beginning of Ashwin month, hold great significance in Hindu religion. According to mythology, observing fast on Bhadra or Bhado Purnima is considered auspicious.

People will perform Pitra Puja or Pitra tarpan in this month. Apart from this, Navratri will also be celebrated in Ashwin month.

As per Hindu Panchang, Purnima will fall on September 29, 2023. But due to beginning of the Shradh or Pitra Paksha the fast will be observed on September 28, to pray Lord Satyanarayan or Vishnu.

Significance and rituals of Bhadrapada Purnima:

According to mythology, it is believed that devotees must observe the fast a day before on Chaturdashi, as it should not be kept on the Shradh day. Panchang says that Chaturdashi Tithi will begin on September 27, 2023 at 10:18 PM and will end on September 28, 2023 at 06:49 PM.

Bhadrapada Purnima is the first day of Pitru Paksha. People can perform Purima Shradh on this day.

Puja rituals that can be followed during Bhadrapada Purnima 2023

  • Devotees can wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath, if possible.
  • Offer water to rising Sun (Lord Surya).
  • Devotees also make panchamrit and Kheer to offer as bhog to Lord Vishnu.
  • Recite mantras of Lord Vishnu and perform katha.
  • In the evening, devotees can offer milk and water to Moon.
