Ahoi Ashtami fast has great religious significance in Hindu religion and observed on the Ashtami Tithi of Kartik Maas. This year, Ahoi Ashtami will be observed on November 5, 2023. Women observe this fast for the long life and happiness of their children. This fast is also observed by those women who wish to have a child.

Ahoi Ashtami auspicious time

According to the Panchang, Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month will start at 12:59 AM on November 5 and will end at 03:18 AM on November 6. At the same time, the time of puja is from 05:42 PM to 07:00 PM.

Method of Ahoi Ashtami puja

  • Take resolution to fast after bathing in the morning on Ahoi Ashtami. Observe Nirjala fast (without even drinking water) the whole day.
  • In the evening, draw a picture of Ahoi Mata in a clean place, worship the goddess as per the rituals. Apply kumkum to goddess and offer flowers. 
  • Light a ghee lamp in front of the Ahoi Mata and offer Puri and Halwa.
  • At the end, after reading the story (katha), perform Aarti with ghee lamp.
  • Break the fast by offering Arghya to the stars or moon (as per rituals)

Importance of Ahoi Ashtami

Mothers observe the fast of Ahoi Ashtami for the long life and happiness and prosperity of their sons. There is a tradition of worshiping Ahoi Mata on this day. It is believed that women who suffer miscarriage or face problems in conceiving should worship and fast on Ahoi Ashtami to be blessed with a son.
