Adhik Maas Poornima: Why is it so significant this year?

Adhik Maas Poornima is also known as Shravan Adhik Poornima which falls on a full moon day in July or August, according to the Gregorian calendar. Adhik Maas is an extra month added to the Hindu lunar calendar which generally falls every three years. The month is also known as Purushottam Maas or Mal Maas.

The significance of Adhik Maas this year is also important because it is falling with Shravan Maas. The celestial occurrence will take place after 19 years. The time is considered to be auspicious for the devotees who want to go on a spiritual journey to strengthen their devotion to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

Adhik Maas this year started on July 18 and will end on August 16, 2023.

Devotees observe Poornima fast, as it is believed that practicing religious activities during these times manifolds the positive results and blessings from God. It is also believed that prayers done during this time can also help in resolving kundali dosha and other unfavourable astrological ailments.

• Chant the name or mantras of Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva
• Offer panchamrit and churma (panjiri) to Lord Vishnu
• Taking one time meal
• One can also wear Rudraraksha, which is considered to kill all the negative energies
• One can visit spiritual places
